New presentations editor is now the default editor, also with discussions just like in Docs

The new presentations editor that was launched in October ‘11 is now the default editor for new presentations.  If you’d like to convert existing presentations to the new version of the editor, create a new presentation and import your slides by selecting “Import slides” from the “File menu.” To learn more about how to import your old presentations, check out these instructions. Sparklines and more charts in Spreadsheets

The following new features are now available in Google Spreadsheets:
- Sparklines: These let you display line or bar charts inside of cells and are useful for presenting and comparing data in a simple, in-cell format.
- More chart options: New charts and options including different Y-axes on either side of the chart, formatting options for the axis and title text, and other customization for how lines, bars, or pies are displayed.
- Keyboard accelerators, mnemonics and shortcuts: Keyboard accelerators let you open menus using special keyboard shortcuts. A mnemonic lets you choose a menu item with the stroke of a single key, and it’s indicated by an underlined letter in a particular menu. After you open a menu using a keyboard accelerator, use a mnemonic to select an item in the menu.

Office Tip: Automatic Numbering

Two methods to turn off automatic numbering:

1. Go to Tools --> AutoCorrect Options --> Options then un-check "Apply Numbering - Symbol:*"

2. Go to Format --> AutoCorrect and unselect "While Typing"

* If the document was authored in MS Word, it may be necessary to remove the formatting.

Assignment Turn in Script in Google Sites

I recently ran across this video: Assignment turn in script in Google Sites Screencast.  Setting up a script on your website enables students to upload files and they are automatically in a defined Collection (folder) your Google Docs. Working smarter!

As we gather more data using Google Forms and Spreadsheets there are a lot of questions out there about how we can reformat and share this data in a more consumable understandable way. In the last couple of months the Maine 207 technology team of Mark Ordonez and Janice Cacciatore and Hank Thiele have tackled this issue on several projects and as a result have created a reproducible Google Script that takes the information off a spreadsheet and ultimately creates a unique document that can be shared with anyone.
